Introducing storytelling and various storytelling-methodologies plays an important part in the lessons and workshops I give.
You can see every design as a story, because we experience it over time. A building or interior is a sequence of physical spaces through which you walk; An exhibition takes the visitor literally on a curated journey through a theme; A book compresses time between two covers, and a website is a sequence of pages through which you navigate. A design, like a story has a beginning, middle and end.
You can also see the relationship of a user with a product as a story. A person’s relationship with a product or service changes over time – energy rises and falls as users feel curiosity, pleasure, and anger.
The narrative arc, emotional journey and heroes journey are methodes that the students learn and apply in their projects.
